Enter Tooltip Text Here Center for Lifestyle Medicine at the University of Central Florida. In November 2006 the UCF announced the creation and launch of the Center for Lifestyle Medicine. This is the nation’s first university based academic center for lifestyle medicine. Dr. Rippe serves as Chairman for this Center. The CLM at UCF is housed in a state of the art, 8,000 sq foot laboratory space in the research park adjacent to the University of Central Florida. Joe Montana’s Family Playbook for Managing High Blood Pressure. Dr. Rippe served as the executive editor for this publication. Dr. Rippe and football legend Joe Montana have been traveling around the country several days per month for the last five years on a national wide hypertension education campaign entitled “BP Success Zone.” In addition to Dr. Rippe, featured on the cover of this book are Joe Montana and his wife Jennifer Montana. Manual of Intensive Care Medicine (4th edition). Co-edited with Dr. Richard Irwin, this is a leading source of information on Intensive Care Medicine for medical and surgical house officers in the United States and around the world. The 4th edition of this popular textbook was published in 2005. Dr. Rippe was featured on the cover of the January 2007 issue of MD News. The accompanying feature article discusses Dr. Rippe’s clinic, Rippe Health Assessment, as well as a description of lifestyle medicine and its clinical application. Irwin and Rippe’s Intensive Care Medicine (6th edition). This textbook which is edited by Dr. Rippe and his colleague Dr. Richard Irwin, was published in 2007. This book is the leading intensive care textbook in America and provides healthcare professionals with background information on virtually every aspect of intensive care. Dr. Rippe’s trade book, High Performance Health, was published in June 2007 and was the lead book on Thomas Nelson’s spring/summer list for 2007. In this landmark, book Dr. Rippe offers guidance for individuals seeking to turn their health into a high performance tool. Procedures, Techniques and Minimally Invasive Monitoring in Intensive Care Medicine (4th ed) was published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins (Philadelphia) in 2007. It is edited by Dr. Rippe and his colleagues Dr. Richard Irwin, Dr. Alan Lisbon and Dr. Stephen Heard. It outlines virtually every technique and procedure utilized in modern intensive care medicine. Dr. Rippe was featured on the cover of the May 2007 issue of Central Florida Doctor with an accompanying cover article describing Dr. Rippe’s contributions to lifestyle medicine and his clinic, Rippe Health Assessment and research organization, Rippe Lifestyle Institute. Start Marking Choices. This initiative conducted by RLI in collaboration with ConAgra helps individuals to achieve improved balance in their lives through a daily approach to sound nutrition, regular physical activity and overall well being. The Campaign for the Center for Lifestyle Medicine at UCF. The University of Central Florida has completed a major fund raising campaign for its Center for Lifestyle Medicine which is chaired by Dr. Rippe. The campaign established the goal of raising 10 million dollars to provide an endowment for the Center as well as named professorships. Dr. Rippe’s workbook to accompany High Performance Health was published in November 2007. It contains both individual and group exercises to help individuals develop practical applications to accompany Dr. Rippe’s major trade book, High Performance Health. In January 2007, Sage Publications launched the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine. This is a bi-monthly publication which goes to 20,000 health care providers. Dr. Rippe serves as the Editor in Chief of AJLM. The Rippe Health web site provides information on all areas related to Rippe Health. WebMD.com. Dr. Rippe serves as a member of the Medical Advisory Board for WebMD.com and was one of ten physicians selected in the United States to be featured on the re-launch of this website in 2007. The first edition of this manual was published in 2005. Tropicana Health and Nutrition Benefits of Citrus Juices. This brochure was made available to all registered dieticians at the 2004 National Meeting of the American Dietetic Association. Dr. Rippe wrote the introductory letter urging all nutritional professionals to become more familiar with the multiple health benefits of citrus products. The Women’s Health and Wellness Tour with Dr. James Rippe. Dr. Rippe was the lead spokesperson and cardiologist for a major campaign to help women understand that heart disease is the leading cause of death in women. This campaign, which involved multiple speaking engagements and other appearances and events was sponsored as part of the “Wear Red” program through General Electric HealthCare. On The Road to Joint Pain Relief. This is a brochure and video campaign hosted by Dr. Rippe designed to help individuals understand how to employ lifestyle measures to improve their joint health or lower their symptoms of osteoarthritis if it is already present. The Joint Health Prescription, 8 weeks to Stronger, Healthier, Younger Joints, published in 2001, contains the results of the breakthrough study conducted at Rippe Lifestyle Institute that showed marked improvement in joint health through the use of a gelatin-based supplement. It provides a comprehensive joint health program combining the benefits of this supplement with a program of walking, stretching, and strengthening exercises. Richard Irwin, Frank Cerra, Fredrick Curley and Stephen Heard, provides in-depth descriptions and illustrations of major procedures and techniques in intensive care medicine. In 1999 Dr. Rippe's landmark medical textbook, Lifestyle Medicine, was published. In 1998 Dr. Rippe co-authored The Cheerios® SureStart Program, a consumer education pamphlet, with consultant Marsha Hudnell, MS, RD, as part of a health education program for Cheerios®. The program emphasized that the consumption of whole grain oats as part of a low cholesterol and low saturated fat diet combined with regular fitness walking can improve cardiovascular health. Dr. Rippe hosted Stop: Take Control of Diabetes, a patient education video, in 1997. Dr. Rippe and his wife, Stephanie Hart Rippe, as well as their two Labrador Retrievers (Walker and Bucky) appeared on the cover of the Newsweek Heart Health Supplement in 1990. This supplement contained an article by Dr. Rippe to help individuals recovering from heart attacks incorporate more walking and other forms of physical activity into their lives. Fit Over Forty was published in 1996. It contains the results of the landmark study conducted at Rippe Lifestyle Institute that established the first-ever-comprehensive fitness standards for individuals between the ages of 40 and 79. Forwards to Fit Over Forty were written by baseball legend Nolan Ryan and skating legend Peggy Fleming. Manual of Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy (Fourth Edition). The fourth edition of Dr. Rippe's best selling Manual of  Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, co-authored with Dr. Joseph Alpert, was published in 1996. It is the leading source of information on cardiovascular disease for house officers and fellows as well as physicians at other levels of training. Intensive Care Medicine (Third Edition). The third edition of Intensive Care Medicine continued to expand its reputation of the leading source of information on intensive care in the United States and around the world. This two-volume medical text contains 2,500 pages and has over 275 contributors. It is found in virtually every intensive  care unit in the United States and in many major intensive care units around the world. W.A.L.K. is a patient education pamphlet written by Dr. Rippe in 1994 to help individuals with angina incorporate more physical activity in their daily lives to help control angina. This manual has been used by thousands of patients with angina around the world. Let's Get Physical is a patient education pamphlet written by Dr. Rippe in 1994 that helps individuals figure out ways to incorporate more physical activity into their daily lives. Cardio-Nutrition is a patient education pamphlet written by Dr. Rippe in 1994 that helps individuals understand the basics of heart healthy nutrition. Dr. Rippe and the research staff at Rippe Lifestyle Institute developed the landmark one-mile walk test to estimate individuals' aerobic capacity by simply walking a mile. The pamphlet titled, The Rockport Guide to Fitness Walking, which was published in 1988, highlighted Rippe Lifestyle Institute's one-mile walk test, a simple self-assessment that has been utilized by over two million individuals. Working Toward a Healthy Heart, published in 1996, is a patient education manual written by Dr. Rippe to help people with angina and unstable angina take simple steps in their daily life to improve their health. CBI Executive Excerpt: Fit For Success was a cover story excerpted from Dr. Rippe's landmark book Fit for Success and published in the trade magazine Club Business International in 1990. Keep Your Blood Pressure Healthy, published in 1995, is a patient education manual written by Dr. Rippe to help individuals with high blood pressure take simple steps in their daily lives to lower their blood pressure and keep it within normal ranges. Fitness Stepping was Dr. Rippe’s first exercise video. It was produced in conjunction with step aerobics national champion Joy Kelly. It has been utilized around the world to help individuals understand how to use step aerobics to improve their health and fitness. The Polar Fat Free and Fit Forever Program, written by Dr. Rippe in 1994 and co-authored by Karla Dougherty, shows how heart rate monitoring to assess exercise intensity can be utilized in conjunction with regular physical activity and proper nutrition to help individuals improve fitness and lose weight. Procedures and Techniques in Intensive Care Medicine provides detailed descriptions and illustrations for the major procedures and techniques utilized in intensive care medicine. The Exercise Exchange Program, published in 1992, combines proper nutrition with strength training and aerobic exercise to help people lose weight and maintain a healthy body weight while preserving lean muscle mass. The book and audiotape lead individuals through a variety of walking programs. Manual of Intensive Care Medicine (Second Edition). The second edition of Dr. Rippe's highly successful Manual of Intensive Care Medicine was published in 1988. It is the leading source of information on all aspect of intensive care medicine and is utilized by medical and surgical house officers in the United States and around the world. Manual of Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy (Third Edition). The third edition of the Manual of Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, published in 1989 and co-authored by Dr. Joseph Alpert, remains a leading source of information on all aspects of cardiovascular disease management and therapy. The second edition of Dr. Rippe’s manual on cardiovascular disease treatment, Manual of Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, co-authored by Joseph Alpert, remains a major source of information on cardiovascular disease for physicians at all levels of training. Fitness Walking, written in conjunction with Robert Sweetgall and Frank Katch, was Dr. Rippe’s first book for the general public. It became an instant best seller and ultimately sold 135,000 copies. In this book Dr. Rippe coined the phrase “fitness walking” to denote walking for health and fitness benefits. Procedures and Techniques in Intensive Care Medicine. The first edition of Dr. Rippe’s first major medical textbook, Intensive Care Medicine, was published in 1985.  It was the first book to bring all of the diverse disciplines and information related to the emerging field of intense care medicine together in one major textbook. Over the years it has become the leading source of information on medical intensive care in the United States and is found in virtually every intensive care unit in every major hospital in the United States as well as in many major hospitals around the world. Dr. Rippe authored Manual of Intensive Care Medicine along with a fellow house officer, Marie Csete e, when he was completing his medical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. This is a journal for physicians practicing in the intensive care unit environment. Dr. Richard Irwin serves as co-editor of this academic journal. Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Rippe is Founding Editor of the Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, which will commence publication in the year 2000. Irwin and Rippe’s Intensive Care Medicine (7th Edition). This massive, 2500 page ICU textbook is the leading intensive care textbook in the world. This academic textbook edited by Dr. Rippe and Dr. Ted Angelopoulos will be published in May 2012. It provides modern understandings of both the prevention and treatment of obesity. It is designed for clinicians in all fields of medicine as well as other healthcare professionals. Heart Matters: Get Blood Pressure Down. This poster was utilized in the National Hypertension Education Campaign featuring Dr. Rippe and retired football legend, Joe Montana. Excellence is a Habit. This poster emphasizes a key philosophy at Rippe Lifestyle Institute and shows a picture of Dr. Rippe swimming the Butterfly.
