CORPORATE AMERICA HEALTH SUMMIT 2000: IMPROVING THE HEALTH AND
PRODUCTIVITY OF THE AMERICAN WORKFORCE.
CLIENT: The Disney Institute, Roche Laboratories Inc. and
the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
CATEGORY: Collaborative Project
BACKGROUND
The American Economy has experienced unprecedented growth over the
past decade. However the growth has come at a cost. Individuals
are working longer hours and leading more sedentary lifestyles.
Physical activity has decreased and obesity has increased. Since
American workers spend more waking hours at work than at home strategies
must be developed to help preserve to health and productivity of
the American workforce.
Early in 1999 Roche Laboratories decided to organize and conduct
a major summit involving senior human resources, benefits and medical
executives from top American companies. The Disney Institute and
the United States Chamber of Commerce joined Roche Laboratories
as partners in the conference. The groups turned to Dr. Rippe and
Rippe Lifestyle Institute to help coordinate and manage this conference.
RLI'S RESPONSE
Rippe Lifestyle Institute worked closely with Roche Laboratories,
The United States Chamber of Commerce, Rippe Health Assessment at
Celebration Health and the Disney Institute to conduct a highly
successful three-day conference from February 13-16, 2000 at the
Disney Institute in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. This conference was
attended by senior human resources executives at many of the top
companies in America including American Airlines, The Ford Motor
Company, General Motors, Microsoft, McDonalds, Johnson & Johnson
and many others. Rippe Lifestyle Institute staff members were responsible
for coordinating the agenda, working with scientific presenters
to assure high quality and relevant presentations and ultimately
publishing The Proceedings of the Corporate America Health Summit
2000.
